Tyra turns tiny boxes into a big idea
TYRA BILTON might be the Tweed's youngest entrepreneur.
At just 13 years of age she has launched her own business and it's already proving to be a success.
What started as an idea to fill tiny gift boxes with keepsakes for her friends soon became a business.
With the help of her mum, Karen Bilton, Tyra has created "Little Box Of...".
"Originally I just wanted to sell them at the markets, but then I thought 'why not do it properly?'," Tyra said.
And that is just what she has done.
She sat down with her mum and brainstormed the idea.
What they came up with was a set of 14 products, each a little box set around themes such as love, birthday wishes, get well, thanks and friendship.
Inside each box is a selection of small items which express the sentiment of the theme.
Inside the Love Box is a lotus flower, representing respect; a puzzle piece, showing you fit together; a heart representing love; chocolate lips for kissing and rock, to show you are my rock.
Tyra said the boxes were meant to be one step up from a card.
"It's a cute gift and it's cheap," Tyra said.
"And the boxes have lots of meaning."
The business has only just launched and already has merchandise in 30 shops and has an online store.
They have sold 2000 boxes already.
Tyra is now working on a new range of boxes for niche markets.
