Last day for Mills Transport Company

End of an era as Mills Transport Co closes after 90 years

TODAY marks the end of an era for Lismore-based trucking company Mills Transport which will close its doors after more than 90 years of operating.

More than 100 workers at Mills depots in Lismore, Coffs Harbour, Brisbane, Sydney, Harwood and Murwillumbah will lose their jobs as a result.

Director Reg Mills has said the company would do its best to find staff jobs with the new contractors who will take over the business.

Four generations of the Mills family have run the trucking company since it started in 1924.

The family owners said they reached the decision to close after "forming the view that their investment in transport was no longer supported by the returns offered by the market."

Employees were given five weeks' notice that the company would be closing.
