Tony nominated for spin job

DAILY News advertising guru, Tony Radanovic, could spin a cricket ball as well as he currently spins a yarn and does he have a yarn to tell right now!

He has had a lifelong passion for the cricket - serving it with distinction as a player, official and administrator.

Tony's business acumen, organisational skills and great knowledge of the game have earned the 66-year-old the job of liaison officer for the Pakistan under 19 years team which plays a series of one-day events against their Australian counterparts at Robina's Kerrydale Oval at the end of the month.

As well as playing three one day internationals, both sides will train at Kerrydale Oval which boasts one of the finest wicket areas in the state.

At the end of their Gold Coast series, both sides will compete in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Under 19 World Cup which will be played across grounds in Townsville, the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane.

Tony will link with the Pakistanis on their arrival at Brisbane airport on July 26 and be their guiding light until their departure on August 4 for World Cup commitments,

He was nominated for the position by his club, Gold Coast Dolphins, and after Queensland Cricket and Cricket Australia browsed his bone fides, be became the anointed one.

"I look on this as a great honour," Tony said.

"I have a lot of responsibility ensuring everything runs smoothly - looking after the needs of the players and liaising closely with the captain, coach and manager.

"I'm really looking forward to the whole experience."

Tony joined the Daily News in 1981 and since then has built a reputation as a reliable "go to man" for a host of clients across the Gold Coast, Tweed and Northern Rivers.

A left-arm orthodox spinner in his playing days, Tony was good enough to earn a berth in the NSW Second XI team - a tremendous effort when you think NSW was blessed with such illustrious spinners as Kerry O'Keefe, Johnny Martin, David Hourn, Dick Guy and Mick Pawley.

One of the highlights of his playing career was snaring 10-28 in a Sydney Grade Cricket under 18 years representative game for Southern Districts against Hawkesbury.

After relocating to the Tweed, Tony became involved with the Gold Coast Dolphins and down the years as served them well as a player and administrator and currently is a member of the boards of the Dolphins and Cricket Gold Coast.
