A TOOWOOMBA man allegedly beat and stabbed a fellow inmate during a "barbecue day" in prison.

The incident took place in a secure unit of the Maryborough Correctional Centre, on July 6, 2008.

The complainant told the court he believed he had upset Maygar when he told him off for the way he had spoken to prison officers.
