Top 5 Origin tries of all time - do you agree?

IT'S the three days a year we all stop and stare.

Pizza shops sell out, mates become enemies and enemies become mates.

As we head into round two of State of Origin this week, we thought it would be the ideal time to look back at the best Origin tries of all time.

We called on the expertise of our Newsdesk sports reporter Josh Spasaro to get his picks.

5. The 1994 Mark Coyne 'miracle' try.

"That's not a try, that's a miracle," bellowed Ray Warren after a game that can only be remembered as one of the best. New South Wales was leading 12-4 with five minutes to go when Willie Carne bought the score back to 12-10. The ball was played by Allan Langer who passed a long ball to Kevin Walters, then to Carne, then Steve Renouf down the left. It was Mal Meninga who fired the final pass to Mark Coyne who reached through Blues legends Brad Fitler and Ricky Stewart to get the try.

4. Billy Slater's chip and chase try in 2004

It was game two and Queensland was down by as many points. Darren Lockyer grubbered across the halfway line, Slater tearing through behind it. He gathered the ball, chipped it over Anthony Minochiello's head, regathered and sprinted to score the winning try. Queensland won 22-18.

3. Jarryd Hayne's 'tip-toe down the sideline' try right on halftime in 2007

An 18-year-old Jarryd Hayne proved his worth when he trapped a kick from Brent Tate just before halftime. He grabbed the ball and ran half the field up the sideline with a perfect kick-chase to score a memorable try. The Blues may have lost the game, but Hayne's moment of brilliance was hard to forget.

2. Matt Gidley's "through the hands" try in game three, 2000

It was the ultimate team effort; the ball went through 11 sets of hands before Blues centre Matt Gidley slammed over the try line.

1. Wally Lewis in game two, 1989

The King goes on an angled 40m run, ploughing through Chris Mortimer and Laurie Daley before he scored through sheer determination, carrying NSW fullback Garry Jack over the line (the first try in this video).
