Top students on best behaviour
WITH the Kids in Community Awards to be announced next Thursday, Tweed River High School students are on their very best behaviour, with nine young achievers nominated for their contribution to the community.
Some will be recognised for being outstanding role models, others for working against all odds to succeed.
From Tweed River High School, Year 10 student Caitlin Gmuer, Year 11 students Jae Phillips, Blake Mackenzie, Caetlyn Bell and Sarah Boreland, and Year 12 students Crystal Rose-Flemming, Riley Hodgson and Mariah Jones have all been nominated by teachers Elaine Cunningham and Merran Marriott.
Ms Cunningham said the majority of the students were members of the Student Rep- resentative Council and all were leaders in their fields, be it academic, sporting or community achievements.
“They’re all role models,” she said.
“And they’ve kept up their academic results in spite of hardships and challenges.
“They’re all great young people and it’s a positive thing. You hear so much about young people doing the wrong thing, but they’re all achieving and they’re all very supportive of each other.”
The awards will be presented at Twin Towns Services Club Showroom on Thursday, September 1.
Tickets are $40. Call 07 5524 3121.
