Top talent for village concert

FORMER Tweed girl and award-winning pianist Ayesha Gough will perform a concert with fellow conservatorium student and operatic soprano Petah Chapman in Tyalgum this weekend.

The local talent, 21, hasn’t performed in the village since last September’s Tyalgum Music Festival.

“That was in conjunction with winning the Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition,” she said.

“I’ve performed there a few times over the years and it’s really good going back.”

Ms Gough has auditioned for the Sydney International Piano Competition, which will be held in July. She is now in her fourth and final year at the Queensland Conservatorium.

The pianist will perform half of the show solo, before combining forces with Chapman, with the pair having performed briefly together at a Brisbane concert in the past.

“She’s very easy to work with,” she said.

“I’m looking forward to playing with her.”

Ms Gough said the show would offer a broad range of style and would hopefully appeal to a wide range of audience tastes.

Chapman, 26, has toured internationally with The Seven Sopranos and performed with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Opera Queensland’s 2015 patron launch. She played to standing-room-only crowds at the Tyalgum Dance Spectacular last year.

Solar Chapel from Hearts Aflame Productions said piano was a rare opportunity for music lovers.

“In years to come, I have no doubt that Ayesha and Petah will be gracing the stages of the world’s best concert halls and opera houses so it’s a privilege for Hearts Aflame Productions to be able to bring them together in Tyalgum,” Mr Chapel said.
