Toyota drops price and adds value to its Tarago people mover
TOYOTA has boosted the value of its Tarago people mover in an effort to keep up with its stronger-selling rivals.
It's rare for Australia's biggest-selling car brand to not be either dominating, leading or nearly leading each market segment, but the Tarago seven- and eight-seater family haulers are currently outsold by the Kia Carnival, Honda Odyssey, VW Multivan and Hyundai iMAX.
To fight back, new Taragos have added features, upgraded interiors and lower prices. Sat nav and reversing camera are now standard across the range, while a price of $45,490 before on-roads for the entry level volume-selling four-cylinder GLi is the lowest Tarago price since the 1990s.
Price cuts of at least $1500 are seen across the range, with the four-cylinder GLX costing $47,990, V6 GLi $50,490, V6 GLX $55,990 and V6 Ultima $65,600.
All Tarago interiors now have a soft-touch dashboard, piano black finish, 6.1-inch touch- screen display and 4.2-inch driver display. Engine line-up remains the same, with a 202kW 3.5-litre V6 returning from 10.2L/100km and the 125kW 2.4-litre four-cylinder 8.9L/100km.
Moving Aussies for three decades
The Tarago nameplate has been in Australia for over 30 years and in that time has chalked up more that 102,000 local sales.
In 1986, the first-generation Tarago became the first people mover to undergo a crash test in Australia, while this current fourth generation model has been with us since 2006.
