Transport study is "nonsense" and inherently "flawed"
TRAINS On Our Tracks president Karin Kolbe has slammed the NSW Government Murwillumbah to Casino Transport Study as nonsensical and inherently flawed.
The community group has fought for 10 years to return rail services to the Casino to Murwillumbah line, but the study from the Transport for NSW department may prove the final nail in the coffin for rail services in the region.
But Ms Kolbe claimed that the study did not take many factors into account.
"They have failed to account for the benefits of light rail, for jobs lost and for lost tourism," she said.
"The report is so flawed it should not be used for any decisions."
Ms Kolbe said the reports figures were simply wrong and inflated the price of the railway's repair to make it seem an unviable option.
"The numbers it says for the repair of it are nonsense," she said.
She said that plans to convert the railway line into scenic cycling tracks as a waste of the train tracks and its potential.
"We'd love to see bikes and trains share the same corridor," she said.
Ms Kolbe said Trains On Our Tracks would release their findings on the transport study soon.
"We are preparing a detailed critique to be released imminently," she said.
