Trio in court for shooting
A COUPLE shared a kiss as they sat in the dock of a Gold Coast court, charged with shooting a police officer in the face.
As Senior Constable Damian Leeding, 35, fights for life, the trio accused of trying to murder him faced the Southport Magistrates Court yesterday.
After the brief court hearing, Benjamin Power, 38, leaned over in the dock to plant a kiss on the cheek of Donna McAvoy, 37.
He also whispered a message in her ear.
They, along with Phillip Abell, 37, have been charged with the attempted murder of Sen Const Leeding, who was shot as he responded to a call for help during an armed robbery on Sunday night.
All three have been also charged with armed robbery and deprivation of liberty over the hold-up at the Pacific Pines Tavern when seven patrons and staff were taken hostage.
Defence lawyers did not make any submissions for the trio, who sat handcuffed alongside each other in the dock.
All three were remanded in custody and the case was adjourned for mention on July 14, when they will reappear via video link.
