Trio of Queenslanders in Top 24

THREE Queenslanders will be vying for the title of Australia's next MasterChef.

The Top 24 contestants were finalised tonight and Queenslanders Filippo Silvestro and Mindy Woods were able to nab two of the last six spots.

They join 25-year-old secretary Julia Taylor as the Sunshine State's representatives in the reality cooking show, now in its fourth series.

Silvestro's cooking is inspired by his Italian background and he already owns his own wood-fired pizza business.

"I want to monetise my passion for food," the 38-year-old said.

Making bread from scratch should put Silvestro in good stead in the competition, and his skills as smooth talker might also help him to win over the judges.

"I'm very confident, an extrovert ," he said.

"I'm very good at talking to people and have a 100 percent strike rate."

Thirty-year-old Woods has left her job as a physiotherapist to pursue a career in cooking.

She loves to cook Asian dishes, particularly curries after living for a short time in Malaysia, and hopes to one day open her own Asian-inspired restaurant.

"I want to know I can step away from everything that gives me security" she said.

The self-described perfectionist said her biggest weakness in the kitchen was baking.

"I've massacred many a macaroon."

In contrast, Taylor is one of the strongest bakers in the Top 24.

The Gladstone native has been baking since she was eight years old and the first dish she ever made was chocolate profiteroles.

"I get excited about the hunt for the perfect recipe," she said.

"I will happily make six different chocolate cakes in a week and critique them."

On tomorrow night's episode, the Top 24 move in to their new home in Sydney and then head to the MasterChef kitchen for the first time.

MasterChef Australia airs Sundays at 7.30pm and week days at 7pm on Channel 10.
