Tropical oasis on show

SANDRA King’s beautiful sub-tropical garden at Nunderi is a labour of love which has spanned 29 years.

Starting with a single 1m pine, she’s lovingly collected clippings from all over Australia to create a 0.8ha oasis of flowers, ferns, palms and trees.

“When you sit out here it’s like a bird sanctuary, with kookaburras, whip birds and ground pigeons,” she said.

The immaculate grounds will be open to the community this weekend, from 10am to 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday, with funds raised going to Tweed Palliative Support.

Entry costs $5 for adults, while children are free.

Morning tea and lunch is provided by Murwillumbah High School, while the Pink Pig Jazz Band will play from 11.30am on Saturday.

The property is at 27 The Grove, Nunderi.
