Trump may be out of Oval Office sooner than we think

DONALD Trump might not be spending as much time in the Oval Office as first thought.

The New York Post is reporting that plans to do a major renovation of the office, including security upgrades, which were meant to be done while Barack Obama was there, are being delayed.

It means that Mr Trump might have to find other digs for more than a year - a quarter of his term.

"My understanding is that for the first year of his time in office, President Trump will not have the Oval Office," former George W. Bush adviser Karl Rove told Fox News.

Mr Obama is reported to have told the Secret Service, "I know you want to modernise the Oval Office with security enhancements - literally strip it down to the bare walls and build it back up so we've got bullet proof glass and so forth and so on, security arrangements in it, in my last year in office," but instead he said, 'Why don't you do that [with] whoever comes next.'"

Mr Trump will likely work out of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building across the street.

It's where President Richard Nixon recorded some his infamous White House tapes.

Mr Obama chose to redecorate the room completely in 2010 - adorning it with big, cushy sofas and striped wallpaper.

"It [looked] much more comfortable and less intimidating," Elle Decor editor-in-chief Michael Boodro said at the time.
