Tugun Bypass tunnel slowed, but not a worker in sight

THE Tugun Bypass tunnel was slowed to speeds of 60kmh and 80kmh on Monday and Tuesday - but there wasn't a worker in sight.

A Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads spokeswoman said it's believed the works involved vegetation management, which is carried out periodically.

The tunnel's electronic signs indicated motorists needed to slow for workers, but none were spotted about 5pm on Monday or 8.30am on Tuesday.

The spokeswoman said the maintenance had now finished.

For any traffic related inquiries in the area, call 13 19 40 or visit 131940.qld.gov.au for a comprehensive guide to current roadworks above the border.
