Tugun runner-up in Surf Girl title

A TUGUN surf lifesaver has finished runner-up in a competition to find Queensland's top surf girl.

Ali Glenny finished second to Lydia Allen from Dicky Beach in the 2011 Jupiters Summer Surf Girl title announced on Saturday night.

Judges had a tough time deciding who would take out this year's top honour with 15 girls raising a total of $599,188.11 for surf lifesaving in Queensland.

Surf Life Saving Queensland operations officer and chairman of the judging panel, George Hill, said judges were impressed with this year's field.

“These young women performed exceptionally well, not only during the final judging but throughout the program,” Mr Hill said.

The 2008 surf girl Megan Crockford was on the judging panel for a second year.

Ms Crockford said making the decision was difficult, but she was happy with the results.

Ali Glenny raised $44,549.28 for her surf lifesaving club.

Renelle Bevan from the Burleigh Heads/Mowbray Park club raised $111,223.79.
