Tumbulgum distillery planned

A DISTILLERY planned for North Tumbulgum is the first stage of a development that would include a cafe, bar and 500-seat amphitheatre.

A four-stage development application has been lodged with the Tweed Shire Council for a rum distillery as stage one, a pavilion at stage two, dwelling as stage three and a barrel house as stage four.

The plans that were submitted to the council last week included space for the amphitheatre.

According to plans the distillery will be on a former dairy farm off McAuleys Road with the current dairy structures to be refurbished as part of the development.

The project was estimated to cost more than $1.7million.

The developer, Husk Industries, was unavailable for comment on the project.
