Queen backs Turnbull's plan to dump knights and dames
THE Queen has backed Malcolm Turnbull's decision to drop Tony Abbott's much-maligned Knights and Dames titles from the Order of Australia medals.
Mr Turnbull released a statement this morning confirming the awards had been officially dropped.
Despite her husband Prince Philip accepting one of then-Prime Minister Abbott's Knighthoods, Queen Elizabeth this week accepted Mr Turnbull's recommendation.

It followed a Cabinet meeting in Canberra discussing the issue, which Mr Turnbull described as confirming "that Knights and Dames are not appropriate in our modern honours system".
However, the changes will mean Prince Philip, Dame Quentin Bryce and Sir Peter Cosgrove, the Governor-General, will get to keep their extra titles.
