Tweed Australia Day award winners announced early
RETIRED teacher Kenneth Eldridge, of Murwillumbah, will be awarded the Tweed's Citizen of the Year at Australia Day celebrations this Sunday.
Mr Eldridge is a dedicated volunteer, leading several organisations including the Tweed District Orchid Society, Probus and Tweed/Gold Coast Family History and Heritage Association, and has served as a preacher and youth leader at the Murwillumbah Uniting Church.
Other award winners will be Ema Marks (Young Achiever In Community Service); Murwillumbah Festival of Performing Arts committee (Arts And Cultural Achievement); Beau Nixon (Sporting Achievement); Lions Club of Kingscliff Carols by the Coast (Community Event Of The Year) and Stanley Felsman (Volunteer Of The Year).
Tweed mayor Barry Longland congratulated the winners.
"These awards are a reminder that we can all contribute to a cohesive and exciting Tweed community by getting involved in the wide variety of community and service organisations."
The awards will be presented at an official ceremony at Pottsville Hall.
The Tweed's Australia Day Ambassador Matt Abood, an Olympic swimmer, will present the awards.
