Fun rises as temperature drops

THE Tweed’s cold nights and mornings didn’t deter six-year-old Tali Faramada from wanting to swim at the local pool.

His grandmother Margaret Bailey was shocked that he wanted to go swimming with the morning temperatures at her Doon Doon home reaching 0 degrees and with numerous thick frosts in the past few days.

“I tell you my jaw dropped when he said that he wanted to go to the pool this time of year,” Ms Bailey said.

“But I was absolutely amazed because they keep the pool at 30C. I got in the water with him and it was lovely.”

Ms Bailey said the family went to the pool often in the summer, but she is planning for more visits this winter. “I was surprised that there were no people there, but I guess now the secret is out.”

The Tweed has experienced below average minimum temperatures in the past few days, with both Coolangatta and Murwillumbah recording temperatures almost 8C below the average for this time of year. The temperature at Coolangatta and Murwillumbah was 0.6C to 9am Sunday.
