Tweed council sings the praise for unsung heroes
TWEED charities have benefitted from the second round of donations from Tweed Shire Council.
The 12 recipients will share in the $12,200 remaining in the allocation after $12,800 was distributed in the first round, taking the total of donations for this financial year to $25,000.
Tweed mayor Barry Longland said the funds allocated in the second round will be put towards a variety of organisations working in the Tweed.
"These worthy organisations commit their time to a variety of causes including assisting people with disabilities, providing companionship to the frail and elderly, supporting men's health and maintaining community life through local halls," Cr Longland said.
"I am always honoured to present the cheques to the recipients of donations from Council as I love hearing about the wonderful work these organisations do and how the funds will be put to work to benefit the community.
"Strong charitable organisations are an indication of a caring community and we certainly have that in the Tweed."
There were 29 applicants for the second round of funding which stipulates all applicants must be Tweed based or using funds for a service or activity in the Tweed, that funds are not to be used for a social activity and that no assistance is given to privately-owned businesses
