Dietician says My Kitchen Rules pair inspire healthy eating
MY Kitchen Rules contestants Scott Gooding and Luke Hines from Bondi have showed that eating healthy doesn't have to be a boring endeavour.
The health conscious personal trainers have scored top marks on the television show for their healthy Zesty Prawn Salad and Spelt, Berry and Macaroon tart, which have also been the top viewed recipes on the cooking shows website.
Coolangatta Dietician Amanda Clark was glad that popular cooking shows such as MKR were promoting healthy eating.
"I think that all the cooking shows are great at reigniting the interest in eating well," she said.
"My favourite healthy recipe is a vegetarian lasagne. It's very basic to make but includes a lot of ingredients. It includes a lot of scope for you to do different things."
She thought the MKR boys had done a great job with their spelt based tart.
"It's great to get a variety of grains. Quinoa is also a good grain to use and it's good to choose ingredients that don't have artificial additives," she said.
Murwillumbah nutritionist-naturopath Olwen Anderson said people were interested in healthy eating, but often didn't know where to start.
"When people start to eat healthily, often they're entering a whole new world. People are seeing the guys on the show using ingredients they've seen in the supermarket, but don't know how to use," she said.
Ms Anderson said healthy food could also be tasty and tantalising, if people broadened their mind to the options available.
"I've got a bit of a breakfast addiction. I'm totally addicted to zucchini fritters with homemade baked beans," she said.
"Think of what you can include, rather then keep out, and the possibilities are endless."
