Zane takes it to the top

TWEED Heads superstar Zane Kingi will travel to Sydney for a final concert as a member of the 20th Talent Development Project.

The talented singer joined the project as a Year 11 student in 2009, an opportunity granted to only the best, just 15 students.

No stranger to the stage, Mr Kingi maintains he will be less nervous in front of the huge audience that awaits his final performance than he has been performing exclusively for the tutors who have mentored him for the last two years.

Mr Kingi said the experience had been invaluable.

“I have learnt so much,” he said.

“Confidence, contacts, everything you need to be a professional performer on any stage.

“When I leave I’ll be looking at doing more song writing and maybe looking at university but my dream is the Australian Institute of Music.”

The concert will be hosted by former Australian Idol music director and TDP graduate John Foreman.

The 15 graduating students come from many musical genres and include four from musical theatre, one with a jazz background, one classical performer and the remainder contemporary singer songwriters including Mr Kingi.

Director, Mary Lopez said the class for 2011 was one of the most impressive she’d seen.

“The class for 2011 is full of unique and hugely talented emerging singers, songwriters and instrumentalists,” she said.

This year the graduation concert will be held on Tuesday 23 August at 1pm at Sydney’s Entertainment Centre.

Tickets are adults $35, seniors and concession $25, groups $20 (10+).
