Tweed man wins $345,000 in Keno while on a road trip
A TWEED Heads man is $345,000 richer after winning a Keno jackpot while on holidays.
The 63 year-old grandfather of four, who doesn't want to be identified, was on a road trip from Tweed to Canberra to visit his son and new grandchild when he stopped in Sydney to pick up his daughter who attends university there.
He made a quick pit stop at Chatswood RSL and won the loot on Thursday night.
"We decided to put our feet up for a bit and play Keno," he said.
"This money is going to change our way of thinking," he said.
"I think retirement is looking a lot closer."
The man owns and drives taxis in Tweed Heads.
The winner, his wife and daughter all witnessed the moment their nine specially picked numbers, which included the year the couple married and family birthdays, came up on the Keno screen.
"I was counting them out: there's one; there's two; there's three; there's four; five; and so on until we had all nine.
"I went over to the cashier just before it came up [on the screen] and I said 'I think I'll need to see your manager'.
"I pointed to the screen just at the moment when the win flashed up and said 'I think that's me'."
The winner said he intended to pay off a couple of loans and maybe buy a new car, as well as pay for his youngest daughter's wedding.
