Tweed pair to bowl for Queensland

SOUTH Tweed Sports' Brendan Leese and Ben Savva will be donning the maroon of Queensland at the Australian Junior Bowls Championships at Halekulani in New South Wales today.

The talented juniors are part of the five-boy and five-girl teams that will contest the four-day national carnival.

Leese will play in triples and fours teams, while Savva will play singles and triples.

The early favourites for success will be Dylan Fisher, Kristina Kristic and Carly Griffiths, competing at their third successive campaigns, who will help lead Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland respectively.

During last year's championships the trio all secured gold, with Fisher prevailing in the boys' pairs and Kristic in the girls' fours, while Griffiths won the blue-ribbon singles.

According to Griffiths, who is back to defend her singles' title, timing is everything at the junior championships.

“I'm sure everyone going into the event will have high expectations, but it really is anyone's game,” Griffiths said.

She goes into the defence of her title in good form, having finished runner-up to her sister in this year's Junior Golden Nugget tournament at the Tweed Heads Bowls Club.
