Post-Easter shopping pulls crowds
DEDICATED shoppers did not let public holidays get in the way of a bargain over the Easter season.
Residents and visitors flocked to Tweed shopping centres during the holiday period with businesses experiencing a busy weekend, despite some restricted opening hours.
Tweed City was closed on Good Friday, and along with many other Tweed retailers, did not open its doors until 1pm on Anzac Day.
Tweed City marketing man- ager Megan Connellan said there had been an increase in shoppers at the centre.
“It was busy at Tweed City throughout the Easter weekend period,” Ms Connellan said.
“There were a lot of people doing a mad shopping dash on Thursday before the stores were closed on Friday.”
Ms Connellan said even the beautiful beach weather the region enjoyed did not seem to deter shoppers from spending the day in Tweed City.
“On Saturday there was such great weather outside; we were surprised at how many people were shopping,” Ms Connellan said.
“Due to Anzac Day, we were open on Monday from 1pm and the cleaners said there were people outside lining up to get in.”
Ms Connellan said there was a strong tourist trade over the Easter period.
“We had a lot of tourist's shopping at this time which was great for the Tweed region,” Ms Connellan said.
Tweed Heads Rivers manager Cassie Moffat said the store had an influx of customers yesterday after being closed on Friday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
“We have a lot of people in here and it's been constantly busy,” Ms Moffat said.
“We have had a lot of tourists in here which has been great; it was surprising because we did not expect the store to be so busy.”
