Tweed River just misses out on the $200,000 Riverprize
TWEED River is rated among the best in the country, thanks to the good work of Tweed Shire Council's Water management team.
Mayor Barry Longland took the M1 motorway up to this year's River Symposium and nearly brought home the nation's top river management award, Tweed finished runner up to Glenelg River in Victoria, who took home $200,000 for the Australian Riverprize.
Out of the entire country, Tweed River was selected as a finalist alongside Lake Condah and Darlots Creek, Victoria and winners Glenelg River.
The Mayor was chuffed with the second place result but was also keen to nominate again next year and hoped to do one better.
"Oh look it is a great acknowledgement to our staff and their skills with regards to water management," Cr Longland said.
"We will be entering again and hoping to get the top prize for sure next year, plenty of council's across the country enter so competition will always be stiff."
Only the winner was handed a cash prize, which is another incentive to enter next year for the team at Tweed Shire Council.
