Tweed Shire Council announces new GM
AFTER nine months and one aborted attempt, Tweed Shire Council finally has a new general manager.
Acting GM Troy Green has been confirmed as the new permanent replacement for David Keenan who was sacked by a majority of councillors on March 21.
It represents a change of heart for Mr Green who didn't apply for the position during council's first attempt to recruit a new GM telling people that he believed the role would take too much time away from his young family.
That round ended with the preferred candidate turning down the job and the councillors opting to re-advertise.
Mayor Barry Longland told ABC Radio this morning that Mr Green had proved himself an especially good people manager and had also built bridges with the business community.
Mr Green has worked for the council since 2007 and his previous experience includes stints at Marrickville and Liverpool councils.
