Tweed sport in brief
Finals' waves
Surfing: Northern NSW teenagers Sophia Fulton and Alyssa Lock have spearheaded a Tweed assault on the Australian Junior Surfing Titles at Phillip Island, Victoria, on the weekend.
In 4-6ft surf, Fulton (Cabarita) and Lock (Tweed Heads) both made under-16s and under-18s girls' finals respectively, with Fulton scoring a 14.3 to narrowly miss the title taken out by Western Australian Jamaica Selby on 14.6.
Coming off a big year which saw her secure three podium finishes on the 2016 Qualifying Series, Lock secured third overall with a 14.85.
Tweed surfers Stephanie Gilmore, Mick Fanning and Joel Parkinson have all previously won national titles in the competition.
Tweed triumphs
Cricket: Tweed survived a batting collapse against Coffs Harbour to claim a win in round four of Country Cricket NSW's McDonalds Country Cup at Seabreeze Oval on Sunday.
After being sent into the field, Tweed were able to bowl Coffs out for just 96, but their wayward bowling gifted Coffs 24 runs in sundries, including 16 wides in the 32 over innings.
Extras almost proved the difference, with Tweed just able to reach the target in the 36th over for the loss of eight wickets.
The competition moves into the semi-final stage this weekend.
- LJ Hooker league cricket was abandoned on Saturday.
