Tweed teams prepare for semi-final
THE business end of the JH Williams Women’s Premier League has arrived, with semi-finals on this weekend.
Tweed teams take the honours of filling the top four places, which is a great achievement.
Tweed Border will host the major semi-finals at Murwillumbah, with first-placed Casuarina taking on fourth-placed Kingscliff at 2.25pm. That is followed by the second-placed Waratah Falcons’ clash with third-placed Mullumbimby at 3.50pm.
These are a repeat of last week’s games but Kingscliff and Mullumbimby will be hoping the outcome this time round will be in their favour.
In its semi clash against Casuarina, Kingscliff’s defence of Nicole Clarke, Sam Morton and Tiffany Hazel are going to have a full-time job trying to restrain Casuarina strikers Kym Tuckwell and Savannah Fitzpatrick who have the ability to score from anywhere within the circle.
Casuarina plays a fast-paced game with lots of ball movement which can have its opponents on the back foot early and then it just keeps applying pressure.
Casuarina has a lot of young talent in the Fitzpatrick sisters Savannah and Madison, Allie Farrell and Maddie James along with the experience of Margie Coleman, Louise Ferguson and Debbie Dolan.
If Kingscliff can learn from its last game and take that into the game it will be a bit more competitive this time round.
The other semis in the Women’s JH Williams Premier League will be played in Lismore with Ballina (5th) playing Glee (8th) and East Lismore (6th) up against Northern Star (7th).
