Tweed teens in high-speed chase

POLICE charged three Tweed Heads teenagers after a 100km high-speed chase through the Coffs Harbour district in a stolen car.

Coffs Clarence police spotted the grey Mitsubishi Triton utility travelling south on the Pacific Hwy south of Coffs Harbour about 7.30pm on Wednesday.

Police allege the vehicle's occupants ignored signals to stop, prompting a police chase.

They were followed through the townships of Urunga, Valla, Nambucca Heads and Macksville before ramming two police cars.

Eventually police terminated the chase as it had become too dangerous to the public.

About 8.30pm police found the Mitsubishi on Seccombe Cl, Coffs Harbour, and located three teenagers hiding in nearby scrub.

They were arrested and taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station.

A 19-year-old man, a 17-year-old girl, and a 17-year-old boy were all charged with being carried in a conveyance without consent.

The girl was also charged on breach of bail, and the 19-year-old on two outstanding warrants.

Police believe the car was stolen from Tweed Heads.

All three were refused bail and were due to appear in Coffs Harbour Local and Children's Courts yesterday.
