Tweed's taste of MasterChef

TWEED had its taste of celebrity this week when a local chef appeared on MasterChef Australia.

Kingscliff restaurant Season’s executive chef Reuben Radonich taught a master class for contestants on the hit TV show which aired on Thursday night.

Mr Radonich said it was a great experience because he loves sharing his knowledge with people who were also passionate about food.

The winning contestants of a team challenge were flown to Peppers Resort and Spa at Kingscliff to meet the chef, taste some of the fare he offers guests at Season, and to get a few cooking hints.

The dishes served to the contestants included a main course of crispy-skinned Cudgen reef snapper fillet, scallop filled tempura zucchini flowers, roast vine tomatoes and tomato buerre blanc, finished off with a dessert of coconut pannacotta, dragon fruit sorbet, coconut tuille, palm sugar and lemon myrtle syrup.

About 100 people gathered at the restaurant on Thursday night to watch the airing of the episode and all got a taste of some of the celebrity chef’s signature dishes.

The restaurant was fitted out with enough televisions so guests never missed a moment of the chef’s appearance.

Mr Radonich enjoyed submersing the contestants in local and organic ingredients from the Gold Coast hinterland and Northern Rivers.

“Season aims to deliver a world-class dining experience for guests and to take them on a culinary journey where the produce-trail merges NSW and Queensland,” said Mr Radonich.

“We source a lot of local product from the Tweed Valley, mostly fruit and veggies like sweet potatoand zucchini, lettuces, lots of herbs and berries, and yuzu, a Japanese citrus.”
