Tweed's magnificent seven

ELEVEN talented Tweed District Junior tennis players competed in the annual Champion of Champions tournament in Inverell during August.

Seven were so successful they qualified for the state final of the series, to be played in Gosford in November.

This tournament was the second-last step in the Medibank Junior Development Series of round robin tennis tournaments held all over the NSW Far North Coast.

Junior players from Grafton to Tweed battled it out for an invitation to the Inverell tournament, in a series of tournaments during the first five months of the year.

In Inverell our North Coast Juniors came up against players from the Lower North Coast, New England and North West Districts.

The Tweed District had a strong representation: Damien Talbot and Blake Kebblewhite from Pottsville Club, Caleb Maxted, Lisa Teitzel, Rebekah Dolan, and Natasha Collis from Tennis Terranora, Bailey Cartwright from Club Banora, Cody Atkinson from Kirra, Alex Hunt and Michael Barnett from Murwillumbah Tennis Club and Grace Hyde from Tweed Heads Tennis Club.

Blake Kebblewhite, runner-up in the 14-and-under boys, Alex Hunt, runner-up in the 10/u boys, Grace Hyde, semi-finalist in the 14/u girls, Caleb Maxted, semi- finalist in the 12/u boys and Lisa Tietze, Cody Atkinson and Bailey Cartwright will all be heading to Gosford for the finals.

Natasha Collis is a reserve for the tournament.

It will be a very tough tournament featuring some quality tennis. But first the players will participate in the Tweed Junior Open Age tournament from October 2-5.
