Tweed's takings from NSW budget
TWEED has not missed out in this year's budget despite the NSW Treasurer Mike Baird making 'tough' decisions and major infrastructure announcements for Sydney.
Tweed MP Geoff Provest said the region had "fared well" in a tight budget.
Mr Baird delivered the budget after about noon on Tuesday to NSW Parliament.
"Throughout the past year we have worked hard to get our finances back onto a sustainable path, bringing expenses under control and delivering on our promises to deliver essential programs, services and infrastructure across our state," said Mr Baird.
"The global downturn has impacted the NSW economy with increased volatility and has diminished confidence amongst business and consumers."
Mr Baird said the Government lost $5 billion in GST revenue.
Mr Provest said new homebuyers in the Tweed would be up to $19,245 better off when they buy a new home under the Building the State package, which would also help the local construction industry.
"That means more desperately-needed Tweed jobs," Mr Provest said.
"The Kirkwood Rd interchange will provide better access to the Tweed Heads South shopping precinct and make it less likely motorists will bypass the town to shop in Queensland."
There was also announced;
- $4.1 million for the police command centre at Kingscliff.
- $1.5 million towards the new Pottsville medical centre.
- $821,000 for 13 more nurses for the Northern NSW Local Health District.
- $900,000 for new and upgraded accommodation for people with disabilities in the Tweed.
- $362,000 for Kingscliff TAFE.
