Twilight markets popping up across Tweed

MARKET goers are getting more options on the Tweed with a second twilight market planned before an awning is even erected at the first market.

Tweed Shire Council has received a planning application for a twilight market at Kingscliff.

The application comes only weeks after a twilight market was approved for the Jack Evans Boat Harbour.

According to a letter attached to the application from Jayne Henry, the Kingscliff Lantern Market will be a monthly market held in the Lions Park on Marine Pde.

"The usual products will be available for purchase including fashion and fair, art and craft, hot and
cold foods and other miscellaneous items," Ms Henry said

"We also intend to have a 4-hour entertainment program and sound levels will be monitored regularly with a sound meter and logged for future reference,

"We are considering also having security on the night to secure any possible transference of alcohol
from the adjoining Cudgen Headland Surf Life Saving Club.

"We íntend to run a safe community event and have advised and receíved support from the Tweed
Byron Local Area Command."

The proposed twilight market at Jack Evans Boat Harbour has been approved and vendors have enquired about stalls on the site.

In October, Tweed Shire Council Mr Brawley said the twilight markets at Jack Evans Boat Harbour would be more of a creative market place.

"There are plenty of those markets (trash & treasure) and we don't want to compete with markets that already exist," he said.

"I suppose that any market starts small and builds as the word get out."

Organisers of the Kingscliff markets expect crowds of between 250 and 750 people.
