Two children pulled from surf, one unconscious

A YOUNG boy was pulled from the surf today at Kingscliff unconcious.

A lifeguard and members of the public noticed the boy had gone under the water and had not resurfaced, before the rescue commenced, Far North Coast Lifeguard supervisor Jarrad Cain said.

The boy was at the beach with his family who were from Afghanistan.

He regained consciousness on the beach and was taken to Tweed Hospital by ambulance where he remains under observation.

A second child also got into trouble at Dreamtime Beach, near Fingal Beach, but she was able to make her way to rocks.

She suffered cuts and lacerations and was also taken to Tweed Heads Hospital.

The children were aged between nine and eleven and neither child was swimming between the flags at the time of the incidents.

Mr Cain said he wanted to remind the general public of the importance of swimming between the flags.
