Three killed, including five-year-old girl, in crash

9AM: THREE people are dead and a fourth is in hospital following a crash on the Capricorn Hwy yesterday afternoon.

Police have confirmed the driver, 28-year-old woman, a passenger, a 46-year-old man died at the scene 20km west of Emerald, and a 5-year-old girl died at the Emerald Hospital.

A 7-year-old girl was flown to the Rockhampton Base Hospital with serious injuries from the crash which happened about 1.50pm Friday afternoon.

Investigations are continuing into the circumstances of the crash involving a sedan and a semi-trailer truck.

The truck driver sustained minor injuries.

The highway was reopened about 9.40pm.

4PM: TWO people are dead and a third is in a critical condition following a crash on the Capricorn Hwy about 1.50pm today.

The crash has closed the highway as Queensland Police investigate the crash involving a semi-trailer truck and sedan.

Police said a fourth person, a passenger in the sedan, has non-life threatening injuries.

The truck driver sustained minor injuries.

Traffic was backed up either side of the crash scene, with a number of long-haul trucks left waiting.

Parents and school buses were also in the waiting traffic, but some diversion through a fire break was possible.

The highway is expected to remain closed until this evening, pending traffic management plans.
