Two in court on second car chase

TWO men will appear in court after a second police chase in the Tweed Byron area in less than 48 hours.

Police patrolling the Pacific Hwy at Byron Bay attempted to stop a Holden Commodore station wagon yesterday afternoon.

It had been described over police radio after being allegedly stolen from a motel in Byron Bay that afternoon.

The vehicle accelerated away and a pursuit began along the Pacific Hwy and through a number of streets in Banora Point and Tweed Heads South.

The vehicle stopped in Dry Dock Rd where police were preparing to deploy road spikes.

An 18-year-old driver from Miami, on the Gold Coast, was charged with a number offences including three counts of steal motor vehicle, break and enter with intent, police pursuit - drive manner dangerous - not stop (better known as Skyes Law), drive manner dangerous, low range PCA, assault and unlicensed driver.

He will appear in Tweed Heads Local Court today.

An 18-year-old Tweed Heads man also in the car was charged with demand money with menaces, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, two counts of steal motor vehicle and stealing.

He was conditionally bailed to appear in Tweed Heads Local Court on May 14.

A 16-year-old Tweed Heads girl was released pending further inquiries.
