Two jailed over Tweed heist

A COUPLE who robbed a man of $4000 outside the River Road Motel at Tweed Heads then drove over his foot when they fled in his car will spend at least two years in jail for their crime.

Mark Edward Walsh, 44, and the woman, 35, both pleaded guilty to robbery in company and to stealing the man's Commodore, which left their victim stranded at night beside the road in August 2006.

The fleeing woman also left her young child behind in a motel room and was arrested when she later tried to claim the youngster.

Judge James Black in Lismore District Court sentenced the former Sydney residents to four years jail, ordering them to each serve at least two years and three months in custody.
