Armed robberies at Kirra, Tweed
THE spate of violent crime plaguing the coast shows no sign of slowing, with armed robberies in Tweed Heads and Kirra on Tuesday night.
Tweed police said they are working closely with Queensland police as they believe the same man could be responsible for both attacks.
About 6.45pm a man armed with a knife threat- ened a 25-year-old female employee at a Wharf St pharmacy in Tweed Heads.
She handed the man cash and he left on foot.
Less than an hour later Gold Coast police responded to an armed robbery at a bottle shop in Musgrave St, Kirra.
About 7.35pm a man, also armed with a knife, entered the store and demanded cash from the male attendant.
He fled the store on foot with a sum of cash.
Police on both sides of the border suspect it is likely the incidents are linked and have issued a description of the man.
The offender has been described as between 20 and 25 years old, of Caucasian appearance with a fair complexion.
He is about 180cm tall with a slim build and blue eyes and was wearing a black balaclava, a blue hooded jumper with a white trim, and black board shorts with red stars.
The crimes come just a day after a bottle shop in Kingscliff was also robbed by a knife-wielding man.
About 6.30pm on Monday a man entered the Pearl St Cellarbrations store and threatened a staff member with a knife before escaping on foot with cash.
Tweed crime manager Detective Inspector Shane Diehm said detectives did not believe the Kingscliff robbery was linked to the incidents on Tuesday.
Police are urging anyone who has seen a man fitting this description or anyone with information to contact them via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
