Two serious crashes on Northern Rivers roads

A 33-YEAR-OLD man has been taken to the Lismore Base Hospital in a serious condition following a collision on the Summerland Way this morning, about 10km south of Casino.

The incident was one of two heavy vehicle collisions on Northern Rivers roads this morning.

Fortunately, no one has died.

Rural Fire Service Northern Rivers Inspector Boyd Townsend said the incident involving a car and an empty milk tanker occurred at about 4.30am this morning.

A spokesperson from NSW ambulance media said they were called to the scene and a 33-year-old man was taken to the Lismore Base Hospital in a serious condition.

Barely an hour later, another crash involving a 4WD towing a caravan and B-double semi-trailer occurred on the Pacific Highway at the parking bay near New Italy at 5.19am.

Insp. Townsend said the caravan was completely destroyed in the collision and the B-double had to be towed away.

He said the incident occurred when the 4WD towing the caravan pulled out of the parking bay onto the highway in front of the B-Double truck.

The crash resulted in road closures for about an hour while RFS and RMS crews cleared the scene and removed oil from the road.

NSW Ambulance media said no one needed to be transported to hospital.

Insp. Townsend said it was fortunate no one died in the crashes.

"Normally incident involving heavy vehicles and cars don't end well," he said.
