Three hospitalised after head-on collision near Murwillumbah

UPDATE: 11.45am

THREE people were hospitalised after a head-on collision near Murwillumbah on Thursday morning.

Tweed Police Inspector Jim Cain said a Holden station wagon was travelling north on Kyogle Rd toward Murwillumbah, while a sedan headed the other way. 

The two vehicles collided near Byangum Bridge. 

"The driver of the Holden was trapped in the vehicle for some time," Insp Cain said. 

Insp Cain said the male Holden driver was later taken to Murwillumbah Hospital, along with the driver and passenger of the other vehicle. 

He said no other people were involved in the incident.

Insp Cain said no charges have been laid at this time, as the Ballina Crash Investigation Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.

TWO people are believed to have been seriously injured in a vehicle collision near Murwillumbah.

It's understood the crash occurred just before 9.45am Thursday on Byangum Bridge, Kyogle Rd.

Emergency services were on scene as of 9.50am.
