Tyalgum kicks off musical season
THE sweet, classical sounds of operatic soprano Jenna Dearness-Dark are set to fill Tyalgum's Flutterbies Cottage Cafe in September.
A semi-finalist from the second season of TV reality show, The Voice, the 19-year-old's short career has seen her perform at New York's Carnegie Hall and on Broadway, while studying at the Queensland Conservatorium in Brisbane.
Dearness-Dark will be accompanied by 2016 Sydney International Piano Competition Showcase performer Crystal Smith, who will also perform solo piano classics from the likes of Mozart, Chopin and Shumann.
At just 18, Smith has garnered an impressive list of achievements including receiving the Most Promising Pianist Tweed Valley award for 2015.
Solar Chapel from Hearts Aflame Productions said the cottage cafe had proven to be a popular venue for classical music and it was exciting for the town to be able to showcase the young, impressive performers.
"Opera and classical piano seem to be a very popular combination. We set up the room and do a couple of concerts a year,” Chapel said.
"Crystal has performed at Flutterbies and her and Jenna have been doing concerts together and we are thrilled to have the two emerging talents performing.”
Chapel said crowd room was limited to 40 spots, with only 14 seats left.
"If people want to come, they need to book very quickly,” he said.
The concert starts at 2.30pm on Saturday, September 3. Tickets are $45 with afternoon tea or $35, show only.
Flutterbies' Champagne & Gin Bar opens from 1.30pm. 0488 713 241 or www.ticketebo.com.au/musicalwhispers to book.
