Tyalgum turns on the music

MUSIC lovers flocked to the 20th Tyalgum Festival of Classical Music over the weekend.

The event featured a stellar cast of musicians, collaborations, an expanded fringe program and performances by young and emerging artists.

Festival music director Jenni Hibbard said the music from the many talented artists reflected the sounds of Tyalgum.

“One of the special features of the Tyalgum Hall classical music performances has always been the sounds of leaves rustling on the roof and our local birds singing in the trees nearby,” said Ms Hibbard.

Yesterday's festival line-up included the Caldera Art Exhibition at Tyalgum Hall, Caldera Artists-in-Residence and a Double Mask Performance which added a touch of Italian street theatre to the event.

At 8am some festival guests went on a nature walk and enjoyed a relaxing and informative stroll with local frog identification and habitat consultant, Dr Jean-Marc Hero, Associate Professor, Griffith School of Environment and John Pumpurs.

A specially-composed work by composer Ann Carr-Boyd made its world debut at the festival yesterday.

The composition, Tyalgum Dawn, featured soprano and strings and was performed by Brisbane orchestra, the Camerata of St John's in the grand finale concert.
