Uki to set up flood warning system

STATE Emergency Services are calling on the people of Uki to come learn all about floods on Thursday.

Murwillumbah unit controller Chris Chrisostomos said the SES hoped to set up a flood awareness group in the town.

"We want to get people more aware," he said.

"Then they can be proactive."

Mr Chrisostomos said he hoped the town would follow Tumbulgum's example where by they have a warden and a warning system in place.

The SES will also educate the community about Tweed Shire Council's alert levels.

It will be held at the Uki Hall on August 1 from 7.30pm.
