Ultimate prize for North Star

HASTINGS Point is on the map. BIG4 North Star Holiday Resort has been named the Best Tourist and Caravan Park at the Australian Tourism Awards in Cairns.

It's the ultimate reward for proud owners Ian and Diana Beadel, who have put more than 30 years into the business.

The labour of love received its first accolade in 1996 when it became the first caravan park in NSW to earn a five-star rating on the back of its luxury accommodation options and family-focused facili- ties. After that, the prizes rolled in.

But it's the humble dedication of boss Ian Beadel to his team of 40 staff that has made success possible.

Some staff have been employed at the resort for more than 10 years.

"They will all be cele- brating this award today and deservedly so," Mr Beadel said. "Without their commitment and passion, we would not be winning awards of this calibre."

Mr Beadel said that over the years his goal was always to have an edge and be "a cut above the competitors".

The installation of a $1.3 million water playground last year definitely gave it the edge to skyrocket through tough times for Northern NSW tourism.

"They're not just looking for campsites or somewhere to park the van; they want all the trimmings and perks of a luxury five-star resort," Mr Beadel said.

The popular holiday park delivers over 100,000 bed nights to the Tweed each year.
