Ultimate stand-up comp

SOME of the biggest names in Australian Stand-Up-Paddleboarding will converge on Southport Spit tomorrow for the 2009 Roar Industries Ultimate SUP Challenge.

Open to both men and women, the multi-disciplinary single-division event challenges competitors to use the same board across two disciplines.

A field of up to 50 competitors will begin with a surfing competition, which utilises the SUP judging criteria where competitors are scored on how they use their paddle to push into waves and execute manoeuvres.

They will then be required to complete a two-kilometre paddle course involving both flat and ocean conditions. .

Masters of the craft including James Watson (Burleigh Heads) and Paul Jackson (Palm Beach) will be battling it out for a Kahuna Street SUP prize package - including a new board.
