Understrength Pottsville at loss

A NINE-MAN Pottsville outfit endured a day they’d rather forget as they crashed to an outright loss at Kingsford Smith South on Saturday.

Up against the might of Tintenbar-East Ballina in round three of the LJ Hooker League, the visitors were embarrassed, beaten by an innings and 35 runs.

After capitulating for a meagre 29 in their first innings, Pottsville had salt rubbed into their wounds by their cocky hosts who declared at 5-136.

But Tintenbar’s confidence, against a side dismissed twice in the 70s last week, proved justified as Pottsville were all out in their second dig for a paltry 72.

Things aren’t looking much better at Rabjones Oval, with Murwillumbah in all sorts of trouble against reigning premiers Ballina after the first day’s play.

Ballina whiz Shane Jacobs was simply unplayable, snaring the hosts’ final seven wickets in an impressive 10-over spell that saw him hit for just 29.

Skipper Matt Parker (25) and mister consistent Aaron Chapman (35) were the best of the hosts at the crease, while bowlers Nigel Chapman (12), Gareth Combs (10) and Joshua Barnes (13) ensured the tail wagged its way to 134.

In response Ballina began shakily when opener Toby Hordern fell for just four, but an unbeaten 110 to Michael Gordon along with opener Aron Jeal’s 62, ensured the visitors ended the day on a commanding 1-183.

Details of the Terranora and Alstonville match were unavailable.
