Unknown smell reported at Kirra
BILL Grant thinks that Kirra stinks.
The long-time Korina Ave resident and board shaper said that Kirra was often invaded by a "gas" smell in the early hours of the morning but so far has been unable to find the source.
"It just makes me sick," Mr Grant said.
"I can smell it down at the beach."
Mr Grant has sought advice from the Gold Coast City Council, Tweed Shire Council, Gold Coast Airport, Allconnex and environmental agencies but the source of the gas has not been identified.
"I spoke to the councils on both sides of the border and I even called the fire brigade. I won't be doing that again."
Mr Grant said the firefighters came to his home with the "sirens screaming".
"They (Gold Coast City Council) want me to go out in the middle of the night to find the source of the smell," he said.
Mr Grant said that Tweed Shire Council had a water treatment plan nearby that has been suggested as the source of the smell.
A Tweed Shire Council spokesman said that there was a treatment plant near the border but it was decommissioned about five years ago.
The spokesperson said the closes Tweed Shire Council treatment plant to Kirra was at Banora Point.
