Vandals target Nationals candidate’s campaign office

MATTHEW Fraser has been defaced in Murwillumbah.

The Nationals candidate for Richmond's campaign office, which had posters of him displayed in the window, was painted red in broad daylight yesterday afternoon.

The store's landlord Adrian Bryant will now be the one who has to pay for the paint to be removed.

"Of course I don't like to see the campaign posters covered up by paint," Mr Fraser said.

"But what really upsets me is the damage done to Mr Bryant's property."

The incident has been reported to police.

"Murwillumbah's main street is covered by CCTV cameras and I hope these have recorded the vandal's actions so the police will be able to take this matter to its proper conclusion," Mr Fraser said.

Tweed-Byron crime manager Acting Inspector Saul Wiseman said he had been told about the incident but there was no report on the system.

"It's early days," he said.

He said the officers would most likely have been called to other jobs and would compile the report soon.

Anderson's Treasure Store jewellers reported the vandalism to Mr Bryant.
