Vegan restaurant set to ‘veg-ucate’ the world

WORLD Vegetarian Day is here and its music to non-meat eaters ears because the cause is being heard loud and clear.

Natalie Evans, a vegan of two and a half years, is opening the southern Gold Coast's first complete vegan a la carte restaurant in Kirra.

She said it was unnecessary to consume any animal products, especially meat.

"It's completely unnecessary and bad for your health," she said.

"More and more studies are coming out showing that plant based diets are the best for healthy living and vitality."

She referenced studies such as popular book The China Study which reveals 20 years of researched showed a direct link between consuming animal products and health problems.

Miss Evans, who made the transition from meat eater to vegan over a two-month period, said animal products were also being produced in excess of what consumers actually needed.

She made the switch originally because of health problems.

"I physically felt ill," she said.

"It was firstly for health and weight loss. When you make the switch you become more of a conscious eater and want to know where the food you're eating came from, where's its been and how many people have touched it.

"When I made the switch I felt better, it cleared up my psoriasis and anxiety and that fog in your head just lifts."

She said vegetarianism and veganism was becoming increasingly more mainstream in today's society.

"You can go to a steak house and order a vegetarian meal," she said.

"It's clear consumers are becoming more health conscious."

Miss Evans and her business partner Rae-Anne Holmes are opening their new vegan restaurant Greenhouse Factory in mid-December to give everyone and "veg-ucation".

"We want to show people we (vegans) still want a cocktail with dinner and that it's entirely possible to eat a healthy and plant based meal that tastes good," Miss Evans said.

"I think this area needs it."

Miss Evans said her new restaurant would give diners all the benefits of a healthy entirely plant based meal, minus the hippy vibe.

"We're vegans who like to wear high-heels," she said.
